PPG and Williams Martini Racing continue long standing partnership
For a thirteenth consecutive year PPG renews its sponsorship agreement with Williams Martini Racing, one of the top performing F1 teams. PPG Automotive Refinish has devised a customised paint system that aims to make the new Williams FW38 car lighter and faster than ever.
An exciting new season has just begun for the Williams Martini Racing team. Experienced drivers, a renewed car and the enthusiasm of the team working together, create the key to racing success in 2016.
Iconic are the red, white and blue stripes artistically drawn on the car’s gleaming white background. But even if PPG coatings confer a subtle beauty and an incomparable resistance to the car, what is essential is their contribution to making the paint 30% lighter. Only this way can lap times be palpably reduced. Here is where the synergy between the two partners lies; a perfect collaboration to get the most out of the resources both companies have in order to become leaders.
The two stunning FW38s will be driven this season by the skilful drivers Felipe Massa (so far one pole position and four podium finishes) and Valtteri Bottas (seven podiums in the last two seasons). Sir Frank Williams, Williams’ Founder and Team Principal said “We have a very stable team going into 2016, with Felipe and
Valtteri teaming up for a third successive season. They work well together and both have the ideal blend of speed and consistency.” Nevertheless drivers’ competence is not enough for success if the car is not technically ready. This has been exactly the purpose of the Test Days recently held in Barcelona, to which 120 PPG clients all around Europe were invited. “We have had a busy couple of weeks of testing to learn more about our package and to refine the car ahead of the first race in Australia. I’m confident that our hard work over the winter and during the tests will stand us in good stead”, added Sir Williams.
“The Williams Martini Racing team is continually improving its performance and we are delighted to be a part of its success”, said Patricia Phountoucos, Communications and Branding Manager PPG Refinish EMEA. “We are really pleased to continue this great long-standing partnership and look forward to seeing the team in action this year again”.
We wish the best of luck to Williams Martini Racing for the 2016 season!
