The latest clearcoat technology from PPG Automotive Refinish has gained global technical approval from Volvo Car Corporation. Volvo now recommends the use of PPG advanced D8171 UHS Premium Clearcoat to its worldwide network of Volvo dealerships and independent collision centres.
This latest endorsement demonstrates PPG Industries' continuing commitment to developing innovative refinish solutions that meet the needs of car manufacturers and repairers. It follows extensive testing and confirms that PPG D8171 meets Volvo Car Corporation's technical specifications for the repair of Volvo vehicles.
"We are delighted that this latest clearcoat meet Volvo's technical approval" says "Ron Thomas, PPG OEM and EMEA technical marketing manager. "Volvo is well known for its commitment to customers with premium level repair quality and for its rigorous tests on all materials used during the repair process. To be one of their approved suppliers is real recognition of the quality of our products."
According to PPG research, one of the most commonly cited challenges when using standard clearcoats is that many of the resins used continue to flow when baked. This can result in 'fat edges' or even sagging on sharp edges such as styling lines and panel edges, therefore compromising the quality of the repair. Using a unique resin technology, D8171 provides a solution to this problem whilst also meeting t increasing demands for durability and scratch resistance.
D8171 is quick and easy to use, allowing painters to confidently apply the clear to a smooth and even finish, safe in the knowledge that it will not flow further when drying. Higher productivity can also be achieved with the use of an accelerated thinner, enabling repairs to be completed using a 10-minute system.
